Yang Shi Chang

Yang Shi Chang (b.1939) was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. National Master of Art and Crafts in jade carving. He studied carving from Liu Deying, one of the “Four Outstanding Masters of Beijing Wares” when he was eighteen. He also studied from Wang Zhongyuan and Gao Xiang. For more than forty years, he has hypnotized the art world with his intricate carvings. Yang Shi Chang won the Baihua Cup in 1986, and his work entered the Beijing Arts and Crafts Museum in 1989. He became a Master of Beijing Arts and Crafts in 1988, and a National Master of Art and Crafts in 1993.  

Yang Shi Chang specializes in carving flower, fauna, and fruits on jade.  His artwork shows substantial technical expertise and knowledge about subject matter. Each carving is designed to achieve physical perfection without appearing ostentatious. He values a balanced composition that align to formal tastes.
